God Is Making a Way in the Wilderness

There are seasons in life when the path ahead feels unclear. We pray, we wait, and yet the situation still looks dry, difficult, and unmoving. A family burden, a health concern, a financial strain, a spiritual weariness, or a broken relationship can make the heart feel like it is standing in a wilderness. Into such places, the Lord speaks through Isaiah 43:19: “Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth; shall ye not know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert.” These words were given to God’s people in a time when they needed hope beyond what they could see. The Lord reminded them that He was not finished with them. The same God who had made a way through the Red Sea was able to make a way again. He was able to bring life where there seemed to be no life, direction where there seemed to be no road, and refreshment where everything felt dry. God Sees the Wilderness The wilderness is not hidden from God. Sometimes we may feel forgotten when life becomes hard, but Scripture reminds us that the Lord knows exactly where His people are. He sees the desert places. He understands the weakness of our frame. He is near to the brokenhearted and faithful to those who call upon Him. Isaiah 43:19 does not deny the reality of the wilderness. God says, “I will even make a way in the wilderness.” This means the wilderness is real, but it is not greater than the Lord. The desert may look empty to us, but it is never empty of God’s presence. When we walk through uncertain seasons, our comfort is not in pretending everything is easy. Our comfort is in knowing that the Lord is with us, guiding us, keeping us, and working according to His perfect will. God Is Able to Do a New Thing The Lord says, “Behold, I will do a new thing.” This is a call to look up and pay attention to God’s power and faithfulness. He is not limited by what has happened before. He is not trapped by our circumstances. He is able to bring renewal, restoration, and deliverance in ways we could not plan or produce ourselves. This “new thing” must be understood according to God’s wisdom, not merely our personal wishes. The Lord’s work is always holy, purposeful, and faithful to His Word. Sometimes He changes the situation. Sometimes He changes our hearts within the situation. Sometimes He opens a door. Sometimes He strengthens us to endure with grace until the door opens. But in every case, God is at work. He is not idle. He is not careless. He is not late. What springs forth from His hand is always rooted in His goodness and governed by His perfect timing. God Provides Rivers in Dry Places The promise continues: “I will even make…rivers in the desert.” A river in the desert is a picture of impossible provision. It speaks of life, refreshment, and hope where human strength has run out. Many believers know what it means to keep going only because the Lord supplied grace for one more day. His Word became bread. His presence became peace. His Spirit brought comfort. His promises gave strength when emotions were weak. God’s provision may not always come in the form we expect, but it is always sufficient for what He has called us to face. The desert cannot stop the river when God commands it to flow. An Invitation to Prayer and Trust Today, if you are standing in a wilderness place, bring it honestly before the Lord. Ask Him to help you see what He is doing. Ask Him for faith to trust His timing, His wisdom, and His heart. Let us pray: Father, thank You that no wilderness is beyond Your reach. Make a way where we cannot see a way. Refresh our hearts with Your presence, and teach us to trust You as You do Your holy work. In Jesus’ name, Amen. Behold the Lord. Trust His Word. He is still able to make a way.
