The Strength of Stillness

“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”
Psalm 46:10 (NIV)
We live in a world that celebrates busyness. Productivity is praised, rest is questioned, and silence feels uncomfortable. Yet God invites us into something counter-cultural — stillness. Psalm 46 was written against a backdrop of chaos. Nations rage, kingdoms fall, the earth gives way. And right in the middle of it all, God speaks: Be still. This is not passive resignation. It is an active surrender — a deliberate choice to stop striving and remember who is in control. Stillness before God is where faith deepens. It is in the quiet that we hear His voice most clearly, where anxiety loosens its grip, and where our souls are restored. You do not need to have all the answers today. You simply need to be still and know that He is God — sovereign, faithful, and near.
Prayer
Father, forgive me for the times I have tried to carry burdens You never asked me to hold. Teach me the strength of stillness. Quiet my restless heart and help me to trust that You are working even when I cannot see it. In this moment, I choose to be still before You. Renew my mind, restore my peace, and remind me that You are God over every situation I face. In Jesus' name, Amen.
