The Good Shepherd

2026-08-22

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul.

Psalm 23:1-3 (NIV)

David knew what it meant to be a shepherd. He had spent years tending sheep in the wilderness — protecting them from predators, leading them to water, binding their wounds. When he wrote Psalm 23, he was not speaking in abstract theology. He was drawing from lived experience. To say 'The Lord is my shepherd' is to say: I am cared for. I am led. I am protected. I lack nothing — not because life is without difficulty, but because the One who leads me is without limit. Green pastures and quiet waters are not accidental. The shepherd deliberately leads his flock to places of rest and nourishment. God does the same for you. Even when the journey is long, He knows where the still waters are. Today, let the Good Shepherd lead. Stop striving. Stop running ahead. He knows the way, and He will not lose you.

Prayer

Lord, You are my Shepherd. I choose to follow You today — not running ahead, not lagging behind, but walking in step with Your leading. Refresh my soul. Lead me to places of rest. Remind me that with You, I lack nothing. I trust Your care over my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
