The Joy of the Lord

“The joy of the Lord is your strength.”
Nehemiah 8:10 (NIV)
Joy and happiness are not the same thing. Happiness depends on happenings — it rises and falls with circumstances. But joy is rooted in something deeper: the unchanging character of God. Nehemiah spoke these words to a people who were weeping over their failures. They had heard God's Word and realised how far they had fallen. But Nehemiah redirected them: this is not a day for mourning. The joy of the Lord is your strength. God's joy does not ignore pain — it transcends it. It is the deep confidence that God is good, that He is working, and that the story is not over. It is strength that sustains when circumstances offer no reason to smile. Today, choose joy. Not because life is easy, but because God is faithful. His joy will carry you through what your own strength cannot.
Prayer
Father, fill me with Your joy today — not the fleeting happiness of circumstances, but the deep, abiding joy that comes from knowing You. When I am weak, let Your joy be my strength. When I am discouraged, remind me that You are still good and still at work. I choose joy because I choose You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
