The Vine and the Branches
2026-08-30
“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”
John 15:5 (NIV)
A branch cannot bear fruit on its own. Cut off from the vine, it withers and dies. Jesus uses this image to teach us the most important truth of the Christian life: apart from Him, we can do nothing of eternal value. Remaining in Christ is not about striving harder or doing more. It is about staying connected — abiding in His Word, resting in His presence, drawing life from His Spirit. The fruit comes naturally when the connection is healthy. We live in a culture that celebrates self-sufficiency. But Jesus invites us into holy dependence. Not weakness — but the kind of strength that flows from being rooted in the Source of all life. Today, stop trying to produce fruit in your own strength. Abide in the Vine. Stay connected. The fruit will come — not from your effort, but from His life flowing through you.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, I choose to abide in You today. I cannot bear fruit apart from You, and I do not want to try. Help me to stay connected — to draw my strength, my joy, and my purpose from You alone. Prune whatever needs pruning. Let Your life flow through me and produce fruit that glorifies the Father. In Your name, Amen.
